Timothy S. Gitzel

Timothy S. Gitzel has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Cameco Corporation, a uranium producer and provider of processing services required to produce fuel for nuclear power plants, since May 2010 and July 2011, respectively. Mr. Gitzel joined Cameco in January 2007 as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and served in that role until May 2010. Prior to joining Cameco, Mr. Gitzel was Executive Vice President, mining business unit for Areva SA in Paris, France from 2004 to January 2007, and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Cogema Resources Inc., now known as Areva Resources Canada, from 2001 to 2004. Mr. Gitzel serves on the boards of the World Nuclear Association, Washington-based Nuclear Energy Institute and the Business Council of Canada. Mr. Gitzel is a member of the Edwards School of Business Dean’s Advisory Council and the University of Saskatchewan College of Law Dean’s Advisory Council; past chair of the World Nuclear Association, past president of the Saskatchewan Mining Association, and has served on the boards of Mining Association of Canada, the Canadian Nuclear Association, Sask Energy and the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Gitzel was co-chair of the Royal Care campaign raising funds for the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and served as vice-president, communications for the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championships. As well, Tim serves as Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan to Saskatchewan and is Co-Chair of the Kazakhstan Canada Business Council. Mr. Gitzel is a recipient of the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
